Glenna Davis Wier 1945 - 2007

Glennadavis Glenna (MHS '64) passed away on May 7, 2007.  Her obituary can be found here.  And Colonel David LeMaster sends this:

I am so very sorry about our precious little Glenna Gay (Davis) Wier.  She was  an intregal part of my homeroom at Cowden Junior High School in 1958 through 1960.   As I remember, Glenna was a very dear friend  of Judy James and Becky (Dillard) Barker in their junior high days,  but she always had a tremendous number of cherished friends around  her in the three years that I knew her.  She was indeed a "lovely little lady" back then, and when I got  to speak with her at the Midland High School 40th Anniversary, I  found that she was still the sweet, lovely, perky, & bright  young lady that she had been as a child.

Heaven must be a  much better place now that she is there.

Sincerely,
David R. LeMaster,  Ed.D.
Lt. Colonel USAF,  Retired

Sandra Newton Elliot

Sandranewtonelliot Published in the Midland Reporter-Telegram from 1/23/2007 - 1/24/2007.

Sandra Lou Newton Elliott was born June 13, 1946 to Ida Ruth Riley Newton and Ariel Estus Newton in San Angelo. She went to live with her Savior on January 22, 2007. Sandra resided in Sonora, Texas, during her childhood, and the day after her 9th birthday, her father passed away. She and her mother moved to Midland, Texas in 1959. She graduated from Lee High School in 1964 and married Carl Deaune Elliott on June 20, 1964. To this union two children were born, E. Ariel and Alicia Ruth.

Sandra entered the world of business in 1971 and was employed by four companies in positions ranging from Accounts Receivable Secretary, Benefits Manager, and Office Manager. In 1986 she was employed by Reed and Associates which later became Arcadis. At the time of her death she had been employed as Office Manager at Arcadis for over 20 years.

Obitnewtonelliot She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Ezekiel Sunday School class. Sandra was also very active in her community as a volunteer. She graduated from Leadership Midland and chaired the Junior Leadership Midland program for a few years. She served on the Boards for Centers for Children and Families and the Midland Chamber of Commerce. She also served as a Docent at the Bush Childhood Home Museum, and volunteered at the Star Spangled Celebration, at the Midland Celebration of the Arts, as a driver for Meals on Wheels, a member of the Crisis Intervention Unit of the Midland Sheriff's Department, on the Advisory Board of Midland United Girls Softball, and in the public schools. She was a member of Business and Professional Women and had served as President of the Uptown Midland BPW as well as the MD Anderson Chair, Regional Director and District Director. Sandra was awarded Regional Director of the Year in 2004 and received the Caduceus Award for mentoring from Uptown Midland BPW, Region 6 BPW, and Texas BPW. She has participated in Uptown BPW in support of many community projects such as the Walk for Diabetes and Septemberfest.

Sandra Elliott was a devoted Mother and Nana. After her divorce in 1970, her life was Ariel and Alicia (and Memomie of course). She spent many days at football, basketball, softball, and soccer games supporting her children and grandchildren. She also spent many days with Alicia at dance practices and recitals. She never thought of herself until after both of her children had graduated from college. College graduation was always her number one goal for Ariel and Alicia. And after Ariel graduated from college it did not take long for her to help him find a wife. A blind date set up by Sandra led to the marriage of Ariel and Shay. For the past ten years, she spent many hours with her grandsons, Brandon and Blake, swimming, watching ball games, and playing. She also found many opportunities to shop for them as well. She never missed a game or school program they were involved in. During her final months she enjoyed the wedding and marriage activities of Alicia and David.

She is survived by her son, E. Ariel Elliott, his wife, Shay and their children, Brandon Lamar and Blake Hunter, and her daughter Alicia Ruth Elliott Dunson and her husband, David.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children, and her devoted Schnauzer, Sugar.

Poem from the memorial program:

Life Unbroken

Death is nothing at all...
I have only slipped away into the next room,
I am I, and you are you...

Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used...
Put no difference into your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together,
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be ever the houshold word that it ever was,
Let it be spoken without effort, without a ghost of a shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it always was.
There is absolute unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval,
Somewhere very near, just around the corner.

All is well.
