Joyce Galbraith (LHS) is an Avis representative, and she arranged a group rate with Avis for those among us who wanted to rent a car, remember? Well, it just keeps coming!
She secured nine certificates each good for for one free Avis car rental for one day. The plan was to give them away at the reunion, but an opportunity never arose. So today Midland Fire Department Assistant Chief Eddie Klatt did the honors of drawing names out of a can. The names were from the list of MHS, LHS and CHS reunion attendees.
Four winners were drawn from the LHS names, four from MHS, and one from Carver. And the winners are:
MHS:
Richard M. Pitzer,
Sally Brady Rock,
John Clark Braun and
Bill Coombes.
LHS:
Eva Richardson Smith,
Charles B. Lacy, Jr.,
Helen Snody Shifflet, and
Susan Flowers Quicksall.
CHS: WIlliam Merritt, III.
Congratulations! The prize coupons will be mailed to each of the winners. And here's a big THANK YOU to Joyce Galbraith!
Re; the Avis thing... I'd like to thank the members of the Academy, my agent, my producer, the wonderful director....oops, wrong speech! Seriously, this was a nice surprise to receive. I only wish I'd had it Sunday when I was driving (instead of flying) back to Midland from Dallas! I love American Airlines :)
In all seriousness, thanks again to everyone who worked so hard to pull this entire event off. Y'all are amazing.

Bill, nice idea about the Avis coupons and the airline problems. If that idea would work there would have been a completely different set of "winners" -- classmates stranded at DFW. However, to use the coupons a reservation has to be made in advance, and the car has to be returned to the same location where it was picked up. So the coupons would have been of limited use.
Bill, thanks for the kind words. I believe that everyone who worked on the reunion found it to be a very rewarding experience. Any ideas on how to top that reunion?
